There are several water-based dyes that are very effective for coloring leather. Below is how to use them.
What you need
- Leather
- Professional water-based leather dye
- Professional leather finish (glossy or matte)
- Leather wax cream
- Sponges, gloves, rags, etc.
- Step 1
First, shake well the dye you intend to apply to the leather.

- Step 2
Dilute it with water in a large container (a plastic plate is fine) until you achieve the desired shade.

- Step 3
Using a sponge or pad , distribute the dye evenly over the entire surface.
NOTE: If desired, you can also make shades by mixing different colors.
- Step 4
Let the color dry completely, then wipe the entire surface with a slightly damp cloth to remove any excess.

- Step 5
Finally, use a sponge to apply a coat of leather finish glossy or matte, depending on the desired result, over the entire surface.

If you want to provide additional protection and a more natural softness , apply the leather wax cream with a sponge. After drying, brush the surface with a soft cotton or wool cloth.
